For those of you who haven't heard yet, Dalin received his mission call on the Thursday before Thanksgiving. We all gathered around the webcam at Nelson's house (thanks, Laur!) while Dalin sat in front of the webcam on Daniel's computer at his apartment, and we watched him open the envelope and read it. Elder Dalin Brent Gunnell has been called to serve in the California, San Diego mission, English speaking. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on February 25, 2009, and he will leave for San Diego three weeks later.Dalin is absolutely thrilled to be serving the Lord in the city with the most perfect climate in the lower 48. He has really never cared where he went on his mission; he has just wanted to get out into the field. I half expected that he would be speaking a language somewhere in the states, but as I have thought about and prayed about this call, I know that Dalin is going where he needs to be and that he will find people there who need his testimony expressed to them in English. (Of course, the basic Spanish he speaks probably won't hurt in California!) Dalin has an incredible testimony, and when he expresses his feelings about Jesus Christ, he is humble and eloquent. I love this young man. I know the Lord will be pleased with his service.

That is so exciting! I honestly think stateside missions would be much harder than serving abroad. He'll do great. What a fun place to go!
Congratulations!!! Tyler is already counting down till he gets to go (whoa bud - one step at a time). Love the picture of the temple!!
We are so excited about Dalin's mission call. He will be a terrific missionary and emissary for the Lord. I envy the fact he will be in San Diego. Road trip? I'm there baby. You'll find me on La Jolla Beach. If you don't think you can handle being there with him so close, I will just go say "hello" for you and take him out for fish tacos.
We are so happy for Dalin and for you and Brent. He will do such wonderful work for the Lord. If Laur is going I am in. The beach sounds GREAT!! Love ya, Cork
P.S. I sang Derrick to sleep last night, going though all the music. Woke up singing " The 12 days after Christmas" and have been singing all morning.
Congrats on the calling! We were just talking about how interesting it is that all the cousins on the Gunnell side have served state side missions. Well, I know Wes loved his Cali mission and I'm sure Dalin will, too!
I like your thought that someone in California needs to hear Dalin's testimony in English. I like thinking about who that might be and how it will happen. Our children pray for Dalin every day and are so proud about his call.
Congrats!! That is so exciting! Dalin and Wes will have to get together!
Congrats!! That is so exciting! He will do great!
We are sad that we didn't get to see your family before we left. Please let us know if you are ever in Australia :). Thanks for all your kind words. You always made us feel so great. I will be keeping up on your blog as well. We sent you a Christmas card .
Yesssss Dallin! The onslaught of cousins cruising out into the field is exciting. At this pace I would say that we will have a plethora of missionaries representing us. At liest that’s what El Quapo would say! Parents…..keep them coming! Congrats to all involved!
